Virtual Private Networks
In today's e-economy, a secure communications network is critical for every organization in order
to pass digital and voice information globally, as well as to sustain the information flow while
keeping costs down. Many organizations require their branch offices and remote users e.g. Salespeople
to connect to the main network from distant locations. It is also vital to communicate securely
with each other over a vulnerable public network; there is a need to safeguard the data from being
intercepted.
PacketWorks is leading to explosive growth in encrypted and authenticated Virtual Private Network or VPN technology. This
rapidly advancing technology allows organizations to extend their network service over the Internet to branch offices and
traveling users thereby creating a virtual private WAN via the Internet. Users can freely and safely communicate between
the remote networks via the public network. This significantly decreases the cost of communications for an increasingly
mobile workforce because Internet access is readily available now and is much less expensive.
How does a VPN work
When you have two or more facilities in different locations that need to communicate with each other, the way you
can do it securely is through a Virtual Private Network or VPN.
A VPN creates a gateway between the private networks and the public network. This gateway device
can be software based, hardware or appliance, or a combination of the two. This device protects
and acts on behalf of the private network. It encrypts data when it leaves one office and de-crypts
the data when it reaches its destination.
In most cases, the gateway device can also act as a Firewall for the local network, denying harmful data access to the
network, and managing the outgoing data to the public network.
PacketWorks is at the forefront of VPN technology and understands the need. We are able to implement a VPN solution that's
just right for our client!
